Michel Jackson's coffin

MICHEL JACKSON
1958-2009

The King of Pop to be buried in same $25K gold casket as Godfather of Soul

The pop king is no more, but absence of king heated us our soul.
It was good enough for James Brown, and it's good enough for Michael Jackson.
The King of Pop will be buried in a gleaming $25,000 custom-made casket - solid bronze, with a hand-polished 14-carat gold plate finish and a blue velvet-lined interior, the Web site TMZ.com reported.
The coffin, known as The Promethean, was the same model chosen by relatives of James Brown for the Godfather of Soul's burial.
The Promethean comes from the Indiana-based Batesville Casket Co. Jackson was an Indiana native, growing up in Gary before his family moved to California.
A public memorial service for Jackson has been planned for Tuesday morning at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Jackson's brother Jermaine told CNN that a private ceremony for family and some special guests will precede the public event.
When Brown died in 2007, Jackson visited the Georgia funeral home where the legendary showman was in repose and spent time studying the various caskets available.
In the end, both singing sensations wound up with the gold-plated Promethean.
Jackson, 50, collapsed and died last week in his rented Los Angeles home.
