Early Life

Sarah Jessica Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio on March 25th, 1965. At the young age of 1, her parents divorced and her mother later remarried Paul Forste. Parker grew up with ther stepfather, mother, and seven siblings. When Sarah Jessica Parker was 11, her stepfather decided to move the family to New York and start a trucking business. Sarah and her brother, Timothy Britten Parker, soon began to win parts in various on and off Broadway productions. Sarah found herself playing Broadway's third Annie, and soon began taking classes in order to save her voice. Growing up, Sarah danced with the National American Ballet Theater and sang with the Metropolitan Opera. In 1979, Sarah got a role in the feature film "Rich Kids", opposite John Lithgow. Three years later, she gained national recognition, starring in the short lived sitcom "Square Pegs". A few motion pictures followed throughout the 80's, as well as a couple of TV films and series. The 1984 Musical Drama "Footloose", co-starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer, brought Sarah a "Young Artist Award" for Best Young Actress

Sarah's Career Takes Off

In the early 90's, Sarah Jessica's career was beginning to take flight. Her big break came in 1991, when she was cast in a supporting role in the romantic comedy, L.A. Story; Her hilarious performance as the gum popping valley girl, had critics standing and cheering everywhere. Both the movie and her performance garnered some positive reviews. In 1993, she was cast in the film Hocus Pocus. The movie did well in terms of profit but it sufferend from negative reviews.

Her next big role was opposite Johnny Depp in the well received movie Ed Wood. In 1995, she was back in her traditional romantic comedy roles landing parts in Mars Attacks!, The First Wives Club, and The Substance of Fire.



Sex and the City

You may know her from some of her films but there is no doubt that Sarah Jessica Parker is best known as her alter ego "Carrie Bradshaw". In 1997, the HBO drama/comedy series Sex and the City was in the works and Darren Star wanted Sarah to play the lead role. There were some doubts about her ability to succeed with a long term series, but Parker agreed.

The show was an instant success, elevating her star status and making Sarah Jessica Parker a household name. Steamy plot lines, romance, flings, sex, and a new perspective on relationships made the show original as well as one of the highest rated sitcoms on its time. After the show's third season, Parker began directing. She received six nominations for her role as "Carrie Bradshaw", winning the award on her sixth and final nomination. The final episode of Sex and the City aired on February 22, 2004 and was one of the most watched finales of any show.

Current Career

In December of 2005, Sarah Jessica Parker made her way back to teatrical film. Playing a major role in the movie The Family Stone, Parker received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a comedy. Parker continued in her genre of romantic comedies with actor Matthew McConaughey in the film Failure to Launch. The movie was a box office hit in America as well as one of Parker's higher grossing films. Parker continues to work as a producer in several independent films as well as taking a role in Slammer, a prison-themed musical comedy to be directed by Adam Shankman and released in 2007.

Bitten

In March 2007, Sarah Jessica Parker begin designing her own fashion line to be called Bitten. Set to be lauched on June 7th, 2007, Bitten will feature hundreds of fashionable clothing pieces for a very cheap price. Parker stated that her decision to go casual and affordable versus exotic and pricey had to do with her own fashion style. Despite all the flashy dresses and chique outfits, Parker prefers the style of the outfit to the number on the price tag.

Personal Life

The 1992 hit comedy "Honeymoon in Vegas" brought Sarah a one year relationship with co-star Nicolas Cage. Some time later, Sarah had a brief fling with the late John F. Kennedy Jr. and became an attractive tabloid news maker. In November 1991, Sarah met Matthew Broderick, who, at the time, was directing her brother Timothy in a play. Three months later, they had their first date, and the couple moved in together in 1992. Five years later, Sarah announced her desire to marry Broderick, live on the David Letterman show. Directly after the show, Matthew proposed to Sarah, and three months later, on May 19, 1997, they married. Sarah and Mat currently live in Soho, New York, with their border collie, Sally.
